Appropriately for Halloween, this week was strange. We talk about the end of British Summer Time, the huge storm about to hit the south of England, and the last big British hurricane in October of ’87. Then we get into Halloween itself, and the Mexican tradition of “the day of the dead.” Instead of the quiz, my wife Jennifer and I chat about the show, podcasts in general, divine intervention, and mysterious wheelchairs that appear and disappear like the fog. Or quiz guests. Or something.
Dear Two J’s,
Your Podcast is genuinely very entertaining and funny.
You have always been a top bloke and a funny guy. In Johnson, you have uncovered a comic talent and the interaction between the two of you is amusing and warm.
Jennifer is right, the show could be more, but it is evolving, as it’s two hosts become more accomplished.
Do not doubt yourself. The editing maybe a pain in the ass, but it is very professional sounding in my humble opinion.
Please don’t even consider stopping. Joanne and I love our Sunday mornings listening to the show (which is usually my second listening!) and the world would seem a little more dull without it.
You creative types, always with the self-doubt, already. Oy vey!!
Yours Sincerely
Lord Cocker of Westgit.

I know! We’re such delicate flowers. Thanks for the nice comments. Jenn wouldn’t let me stop anyway, because then she’d have to listen to me whining that I don’t have a creative outlet. So.

A delightful show! Did bring back memories of our house being devastated by the “winds” of 1987…. Must dig out the photo of your bedroom afterwards (large slivers of glass between the window and where your sleeping body lay) which I had pinned to the wall for years…. so that whenever exasperated by you for any reason (can you believe that, Jenn?!), I thanked the Lord, or whoever, that you were still with me.
And so lovely to hear you and Jenn chat – I knew that Jenn has been a Tour de Force… If not exactly the wind beneath your wings…. certainly a regular gentle breeze, and reviving breaths as and when necessary. We have that in common!
Keep going please – you have created something special and unique…. as are you.

Thanks, ma. Yeah, that big chunk of glass came down like a guillotine. Send me the picture so I can put it up at home – might help when I’m taking heat from the missus.
Great photo btw.

You frightened me! (Halloween pun intended) Don’t threaten to discontinue the show. It’s the highlight of my week. I know that sounds so sad, but it’s true. Y’all are hysterical. Every Thursday morning, after I put the kids on the bus, I look at the clock wistfully and think “No, 8:30 is entirely too early for someone on the west coast to have uploaded anything. Check later.” And everyone in my family knows it is completely normal to hear me laughing and shouting back at my tablet when I finally get to listen. I feel sure I’m not the only one who talks back to you boys, knowing full well you can’t hear me.
Don’t quit yet. I’m looking forward to the anniversary show. Thanks for the “hello” – I almost feel famous. Much love to Paul.
Thanks, Beth. Sorry for the fright! Will of course keep going, restored and fortified by your nice words. Very humbled to be part of your routine!

All this kudos – very gratifying and reassuring, and I hope you have taken strength from it…. but please don’t lose sight of the fact that you were very, very fortunate to find such a warm and quick wit as Paul to bounce off/of/from. Much as we all undoubtedly love you, it would be a very one-sided conversation without Paul. I know that you have a lot of work to do before and after recording, but on the day, you have only to roll out of bed, have brunch, and take a few steps to The Now Famous (in need of a sweep) Shed….. Paul has to make the supreme effort of getting to your house, probably watch you go into panic mode, may or may not get fed for his trouble, then – after some amusing chat, get trounced by members of your (cheating?) family and friends in The Quiz!
This is Mother – just keeping your feet firmly on the ground…. and saying a big thank you to Paul for his constancy, spontanaety, good humor and warmth.
Take a bow, Paul!
You two make a great team! Long may you be so. Xx
