This week, Jennifer and I discuss the word “downtown,” after which I complain about how Americans mispronounce the word “voila.” Then I play a clip of “The Young Ones” parodying the TV show “Dallas,” and finally, the Kansas Cricks get in touch to sing the praises of British ingenuity in the field of not getting electrocuted.
Jen’s voice is dreamy.
I laughed at ‘meemo’, before you drew attention to it.
Looking forward to hopefully seeing y’all at some point during your visit.
Love always,
Cocker xxx
Yes, ‘downtown’ is bad enough, but then there’s ‘uptown’. I’ve asked Americans what uptown is, and they say “it depends where you are in town.” So, I guess if you’re downtown everywhere else is uptown?
And yes, Jen’s voice is dreamy, which is true of many American women but few Brits, especially since the generic quasi-Aussie/Norfolk/Cockney accent became so prevalent in the UK, in which “No” becomes the excruciating “Naooyyyee”. The Brit version of Valley Girl multi-vowel single-syllable word pronunciation.
